About Alken Systems


Following a successful management buy-in by Paul Coverley and Giles Wyatt, Alken Systems Ltd started operating in September 2015 as a subsidiary of Alken Holdings Ltd. With decades of experience in metal machining and fabrication work, subcontract engineering is our business.

Alken embedded management practises from the start and achieved ISO 9001:2015 accreditation in 2016, and the current certificate is valid until 18 September 2023.


Alken was first established in 1975 by Ken Coverley, and the business remains family owned. Based in New Mills in the High Peak, Derbyshire, Alken was initially set up as a machine shop, and through acquisition the company expanded into fabrication. In 1999, we relocated to a purpose-built facility in Birch Vale just 2 miles outside of New Mills. Having purchased land, the steel work for the new factory was designed, fabricated and then erected by Alken’s own engineers and civil team.

Due to increased customer demand the facility was further extended in 2002 and then again in 2008 and now exceeds 30,000 sq ft of production shop floor space with a further 7,000 sq ft of offices space. In 2015, following a group restructure involving a management buy in, with Giles Wyatt joining Paul Coverley as a director and shareholder, Alken Systems Limited was created and now occupy one half of the group facility with Alken Engineering in the other, with our Laser and Flame cutting division operating from a separate facility in New Mills.

Operating as a standalone company Alken Systems retain a wealth of engineering experience that has been built up over the last 18 years, primarily in the Mixing and Processing Industry. However our expertise does not end there and with Fabrication and Sheet Metal to complement our modern machine shop. We can offer bespoke finishes such and Mechanical Polish, Electro-Polish, and also Bead Blasting or Powder Coating.

Providing a service second to none our portfolio of customers has grown over the last decade as we expanded into a variety of engineering sectors. We pride ourselves on being a Specialist Sub-Contract Engineering business, offering a ‘One stop shop’ where every aspect of your engineering requirement can be catered for efficiently, in a friendly and responsive manner.

Where necessary, we tailor our working practises to suit customer specific audit requirements.

Throughout the production process, our regulated inspection procedures ensure complete ISO conformance and traceability. First off, batch and final inspections are performed by our experienced dedicated engineers.

We are accredited to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard and a copy of our certificate can be viewed above.

We have a team of dedicated and skilled employees of whom we are extremely proud. Our disciplines to name but a few include Sheet Metal, Fabrication, Welding, Manual and CNC Turning, Vertical Boring, Manual and CNC Milling, Fitting, Assembly and Quality Control. In addition, we have a policy of training and development and we actively pursue the employment of apprentices. Our management team is passionate about the development of the business whilst maintaining our excellent reputation for quality, service and on-time delivery.

Giles Wyatt

Managing Director

Soon after joining the Alken Group of companies since 2000, initially as Commercial Manager, Giles was asked to head a dedicated team as Production Manager working with a highly dedicated team of engineers offsite for just over two years offsite before a successful seamless relocation to Alken’s new purpose-built headquarters in Birch Vale. Became Managing Director of Alken Systems Ltd following a Management Buy-In in 2015. Giles recognises that customer service is primary and takes pride in the company he has developed and the team who work with him to make it successful.

Mike Symons

General Manager

Mike has a proven record of managing and delivering engineering projects and joins us to ensure that Alken Systems Ltd continues to operate at a level expected of all our customers. His experience and skills in production management, reporting, projects, account management and logistics will prove invaluable as the company continues to grow. 

Ben Higginbottom

Systems Manager

Initially joining Alken in 2008 as a shopfloor operative to gain experience, Ben progressed into the office initially as a Purchasing and Sales administrator whilst training in Computer-Aided Design and Autodesk Inventor. Now Systems Manager and responsible for ensuring every aspect of Customer and Company requirements are met on a day to day basis.

Tamas Bagyinski

Quality Inspection / Quality Control

After qualifying with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tamas gained experience in Process Engineering, 3D Modelling and CMM programming. With a keen eye for detail he is a valuable asset to ensure all company products and services meet quality standards before they go to the customers.

Joseph Wyatt

Purchasing / CAD / Office Support

Joseph joined Alken Systems full-time in 2020 to further bolster our support team. Joseph is meticulous in reviewing all vendors and suppliers, negotiating pricing and supply contracts as well as developing plans for purchasing services to ensure our suppliers deliver products that meet quality standards and the expectations of our customers.

Karina Lomas

Office Administration

Joined Alken Systems Ltd in November 2015 after a successful career in the Leisure retail sector. Karina provides the support to management and employees, organises the daily office needs and manages the company’s general administrative activities.
